Media
Cast is Enron Communication’s first Internet based application service.
Media Cast allows Content Providers the
opportunity
to distribute higher speed, rich media content to their Internet audience.
Free, pay-per-view or subscription based distribution are all fully
supported. top of page Through an
extensive distributed server architecture, Enron Broadband Services replicates
RealNetworks G2 formatted content or streams for live and on-demand
playout direct to an end-user’s desktop. Both enterprise and consumer
content can be delivered at bit rates from 20 kbps to 1 Mbps. top of page Why is Media Cast different from other webcasting platforms or means of rich media distribution? Enron
Communications
places edge servers within Internet Service Provider’s points of presence
(PoP). By doing this, content resides one hop from an end-users desktop
and streams are now delivered with little or no delay or congestion. top of page No.
Media Cast utilizes existing multimedia players, preferably the new
G2 Player from RealNetworks. Media Cast is also completely
transparent to an end-user and works over any existing Internet
connection. top of page Does the end user pay for Media Casting? The end user
will typically not have to pay to use Media Cast. He or She
will only have to be connected to a content distributor to view rich streaming
content which is distributed over the Enron Intelligent Network (EIN).
Content Providers (such as ABCNews or Bloomberg) may have
subscription-based
events which end-users would pay the content providers to
access. top of page What kind of content is distributed via Media Cast? Media
Cast can distribute any rich media encoded with the RealNetworks G2
RealProducer software. Media Cast is primarily targeted at
premium content such as Financial and Business news, but can also
be used for other types of information such as Real Estate, Telemedicine,
Desktop Videoconferencing, Entertainment and Distance Learning. top of page What is Enron Communications relationship with RealNetworks? Enron
Communications
is both a user of RealNetworks technology and a partner in developing
new applications of high bit rate streaming multimedia. top of page How can I distribute my content through Media Cast? Simply contact
Enron Broadband Services at www.enron.net to find out how to become a
licensed provider of Media Cast. top of page What does it cost to distribute content with Media Cast? The price
is speed indepependant and based on total bytes delivered to an end-user.
Further discounts for distribution kick-in at specific levels of bytes
delivered – the more content distributed, the lower the price ber
byte. Finally, Enron Broadband Services only bills content providers for
actual content consumed or viewed by end-users. top of page How does my content get distributed? It is up to
the content provider to deliver G2 formatted streams or files to Enron
Communications. Your content with then be replicated or mirrored
throughout
the Enron Intelligent Network. See our Content Provider Service Level
Agreement at www.enron.net for more details. top of page Is there a separate charge for hard drive or storage space within the EIN? Not necessarily.
Each content provider has up to 1 GB of storage space within
the EIN as part of the service. If a content provider consumes more
that 1 GB of storage at any time on a monthly basis, the content provider
will be billed at $.50 per additional MB. Content Distributor Questions What are Media Cast Content Distributors? Any Internet
Service Provider, Local Exchange Carrier, xDSL Provider or Cable Operator
that distributes content using the Internet Protocol (IP). Enron

partners with both business and consumer service providers to deliver
rich media. top of page What benefits are there to being an Media Cast Distributor? There are several benefits:
top of page How do I connect with the Enron Intelligent Network? Enron Broadband Services will interconnect in one of several ways with distributors:
top of page What does it cost me to sign up as an Media Cast distributor? Very little.
In most cases Enron Broadband Services will install and manage the circuit,
routers and servers. It also will depend on the number of PoPs that
a Distributor is looking to interconnect at. Finally, Enron Broadband Services
shares all revenues with Media Cast distributors for all
